Virunga Lodge is owned and operated by Volcanoes Safaris (not Governors' Camp Collection, despite the similar name), founded by Praveen Moman and built in 2004. It sits on a ridge between Lake Bulera and Lake Ruhondo, one of the original, most iconic gorilla-trekking lodges in Rwanda, described by its operator as defining "Rwandese Afro-chic" design.

What sets it apart
A ridge-top setting between two lakes with views of both the Virunga volcanoes and Musanze valley — a different outlook from the park-adjacent lodges at Kinigi.
Who it suits
Travellers who value a dramatic ridge-top view as much as trekking convenience, and don't mind a longer drive to the park entrance.

About the photographs
The pictures on this page are stock photographs chosen to suggest the kind of setting this property is in. They are not photographs of this property, and we cannot verify exactly where any of them was taken — a stock library records the photographer, not the place. We use them rather than borrow the property's own marketing images, which would imply we had stayed there. For pictures of the actual rooms, see the property's own site.
