Governors' Camp stands in riverine forest on the bank of the Mara River, next to the Musiara Marsh in the western part of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. It has occupied the same site since 1972 and is described by its owners as Africa's first permanent luxury tented camp. Tents are en-suite with showers, flush toilets and hot and cold running water; some face the river and others the open plains, and several are configured for families. The marsh and river frontage mean resident hippo, elephant and lion are often close to camp.

It has run continuously on the same Mara River site since 1972 and is one of the oldest permanent tented camps in East Africa.
