The lodge is built on the western rim of Ngorongoro Crater and divided into three self-contained camps, each with its own dining and lounge building; Tree Camp is the smallest and sits lower down among the trees near the rim. The suites are raised on stilts with banana-leaf ceilings, chandeliers, free-standing baths and floor-to-ceiling windows facing the caldera, and each guest is assigned a butler. Activities are game drives on the crater floor, guided walks, birdwatching, Maasai village visits, bush dining and picnics, and spa treatments. The crater floor holds a dense resident population of large mammals, including black rhino, so game viewing does not depend on the migration.

What sets it apart

Its split into three small camps on the rim, and the decorative interior style, make it unlike any other property in the conservation area.

Who it suits

Crater floor game drives; black rhino; honeymoons.

What it costs

No rate is published on the property's own site. Third-party reseller range only, not an official published rate: "$1,990 per person" per https://www.tanzaniaodyssey.com/tanzania/ngorongoro-crater-lodge, as listed September 2026.

A reseller's range tells you the bracket, not the price you would pay. We show it because it is the only public figure that exists, and we label it rather than present it as the property's own.

About the photographs

The pictures on this page are stock photographs of African bush and desert country, chosen to suggest the kind of landscape you find around the Ngorongoro highlands of northern Tanzania. They are not photographs of this property, and we cannot verify where any of them was taken — a stock library records the photographer, not the place. We use them rather than borrow the property's own marketing images, which would imply we had been there. For pictures of the rooms, see the property's own site.
