Sossusvlei Desert Lodge stands against a rocky outcrop on &Beyond's own desert reserve, roughly two kilometres from the Sossusvlei airstrip and within reach of the Namib sand sea. The villas are stone and glass, climate-controlled, with skylights over the beds. The lodge has a purpose-built observatory with a Celestron CPC 1100 telescope and a resident astronomer, in an area designated an International Dark Sky Reserve. Activities are guided excursions to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, nature drives on the reserve where Hartmann's mountain zebra, oryx and brown hyena occur, e-bike and bicycle trails that take in rock art, dune walks, a wellness centre, and helicopter and hot-air balloon flights at extra cost.

What sets it apart

Who it suits

About the photographs

The pictures on this page are stock photographs of African bush and desert country, chosen to suggest the kind of landscape you find around the Namib, Namibia. They are not photographs of this property, and we cannot verify where any of them was taken — a stock library records the photographer, not the place. We use them rather than borrow the property's own marketing images, which would imply we had been there. For pictures of the rooms, see the property's own site.
