Basecamp Masai Mara occupies a peninsula on the Talek River, which forms a natural boundary with the Maasai Mara National Reserve. It has 17 river-view tents, two of them family tents and one a honeymoon tent. The camp is long-established as an eco-tourism operation and runs an on-site education centre called Enjoolata, an organic garden and a tree nursery, all of which guests can tour. Other activities include shared day game drives, bush meals, bird and forest walks, balloon flights, migration river crossings in season, and visits to Talek market and the neighbouring Maasai community. It is one of the lower-priced camps on the reserve boundary.

What sets it apart

Its tree nursery and Enjoolata education centre are working community facilities that guests tour, rather than a purely guest-facing amenity, and its published entry rate is far below the surrounding camps.

Who it suits

Budget-conscious Mara stays; community and eco-tourism interest; families.

What it costs

Basecamp Masai Mara publishes its own rates. Published on the official site: "Starting from US$130 per night", per https://sarunibasecamp.com/our-properties/basecamp-masai-mara/, as listed September 2026.

Rates move by season and are almost always quoted per person per night sharing, so read the property's own page before you budget.

About the photographs

The pictures on this page are stock photographs of African bush and desert country, chosen to suggest the kind of landscape you find around the Greater Maasai Mara, Kenya. They are not photographs of this property, and we cannot verify where any of them was taken — a stock library records the photographer, not the place. We use them rather than borrow the property's own marketing images, which would imply we had been there. For pictures of the rooms, see the property's own site.
