The Fort is one of several lodges on the privately owned Onguma Game Reserve, which borders Etosha National Park on its eastern side just outside the Von Lindequist Gate. The building is unusual for the region: heavy stone walls and a central tower, with Moroccan and Indian influences in the detailing. There are thirteen suites, the eleven bush suites spaced widely apart for privacy, each with air cooling, an en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, a fireplace and a deck facing a waterhole and Fischer's Pan. Guests can drive into Etosha or take guided walks and rhino-research drives on the reserve.

Its stone fort-and-tower architecture, and a position on private land that permits guided walks and night activity that Etosha itself does not.
