Tau Pan Camp is built along the crest of an old sand dune inside the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, looking down over the Tau Pan waterhole. Eight suites and a family suite are thatched and en-suite, and the camp runs entirely on solar power with water-efficient systems, as there is no other infrastructure nearby. Activities are game drives on the reserve, day trips to Deception Valley, walks led by San guides, and stargazing from a sleep-out deck. Access is by light aircraft — about 55 minutes from Maun or two hours from Kasane, with the airstrip roughly fifteen minutes from camp — or seven hours by 4WD from Maun via Rakops.

What sets it apart
A dune-ridge position over a Central Kalahari waterhole, in a reserve where permanent camps are very few.
Who it suits
Kalahari black-maned lion; Deception Valley; San-guided walks; remote desert.

About the photographs
The pictures on this page are stock photographs of African bush and desert country, chosen to suggest the kind of landscape you find around the Central Kalahari, Botswana. They are not photographs of this property, and we cannot verify where any of them was taken — a stock library records the photographer, not the place. We use them rather than borrow the property's own marketing images, which would imply we had been there. For pictures of the rooms, see the property's own site.
