Encounter is Ongava's tented camp, unfenced and set in mopane woodland in hill country overlooking a floodlit waterhole. The operator states the camp was previously called Ongava Tented Camp. Accommodation is walk-in tents; the central dining area is thatched and game moves through the camp. Guests take guided game drives in open 4x4s both on the private reserve and in the Okaukuejo area of Etosha, plus night drives, walking safaris, tracking on foot and birding. The reserve carries black and white rhino as well as lion, cheetah, elephant, giraffe and zebra. Guests can also use the photographic hide at the neighbouring Ongava camp and visit the reserve's Discovery Centre.

What sets it apart
It is the canvas option on Ongava and the one where the camp itself is unfenced, so game walks through it.
Who it suits
Classic tented feel; walking safaris; rhino.

About the photographs
The pictures on this page are stock photographs of African bush and desert country, chosen to suggest the kind of landscape you find around the Etosha country of northern Namibia. They are not photographs of this property, and we cannot verify where any of them was taken — a stock library records the photographer, not the place. We use them rather than borrow the property's own marketing images, which would imply we had been there. For pictures of the rooms, see the property's own site.
