Encounter Mara is Asilia Africa's plainer, lower-priced camp in the Mara Naboisho Conservancy in south-west Kenya, next to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. It has ten tents, two of them family units, with en-suite bathrooms and verandas. Power is solar with a generator backup; Wi-Fi, laundry and battery charging are provided. Game drives run twice daily in modified 4x4 vehicles, and night drives, balloon flights and visits to neighbouring Maasai communities are available. The nearest airstrip is Mara Ol Seki, about 45 minutes by road. The camp closes in May and accepts children from five. Naboisho holds a notably dense lion population.

What sets it apart
It is the cheaper of Asilia's two Naboisho camps, running a simpler tented product on the same conservancy and the same guiding team as its sister property.
Who it suits
Value in a private conservancy; lion viewing; families with children 5+.

About the photographs
The pictures on this page are stock photographs of African bush and desert country, chosen to suggest the kind of landscape you find around the Greater Maasai Mara, Kenya. They are not photographs of this property, and we cannot verify where any of them was taken — a stock library records the photographer, not the place. We use them rather than borrow the property's own marketing images, which would imply we had been there. For pictures of the rooms, see the property's own site.
