Lamai Serengeti

lodge unverified. Both sources I could read state 8 rooms at the main camp; Serengeti.com adds that 2 of them are family rooms (master with adjoining twin). Numerous other listings describe 12 rooms in total, split between the main camp and a separately bookable four-room "Lamai Private", but Nomad Tanzania's own site returned HTTP 403 to me and I could not confirm that split from a page I actually read.

Lamai Serengeti is built into the Kogakuria Kopjes in the far north of the Serengeti, looking out over the Mara River valley and the Lamai Wedge, about 30 minutes from Kogatende airstrip. The rooms are open-fronted, built of timber and canvas among the boulders, each with a private veranda; there is a swimming pool set on a natural rock deck. Guests take game drives, bush walks and birdwatching, with balloon flights available at extra cost. The camp closes from mid-March to the end of May. The July to October period covers the Mara River crossings, but resident game in the Lamai Wedge holds up outside migration months.

What sets it apart

Its construction directly into a granite kopje, with open-fronted rooms rather than tents, gives it a very different feel from the canvas camps on the surrounding plains.

Who it suits

Mara River crossings; kopje setting; families.

What it costs

No rate is published on the property's own site. Third-party reseller range only, not an official published rate: "Peak season (Jul-Sep): USD 2,371; High season: USD 1,950; Standard season: USD 993 per person per night sharing" per https://www.serengeti.com/nomad-lamai-serengeti.php, as listed September 2026.

A reseller's range tells you the bracket, not the price you would pay. We show it because it is the only public figure that exists, and we label it rather than present it as the property's own.

About the photographs

The pictures on this page are stock photographs of African bush and desert country, chosen to suggest the kind of landscape you find around the Serengeti, Tanzania. They are not photographs of this property, and we cannot verify where any of them was taken — a stock library records the photographer, not the place. We use them rather than borrow the property's own marketing images, which would imply we had been there. For pictures of the rooms, see the property's own site.
