Namutoni is the eastern rest camp in Etosha, built around a white-walled German fort. The fort dates from 1896 as a police post and veterinary control point, was destroyed in the 1904 Battle of Namutoni and rebuilt shortly afterwards; it was declared a national monument in 1947 and restored in 1957. It now serves as a viewpoint and museum rather than accommodation, which is in double rooms, bush chalets and a campsite nearby. The King Nehale waterhole below the fort is floodlit and has a viewing shelter. Fisher's Pan, a short drive away, is the camp's birding draw when it holds water. There is a restaurant, bar, shop, pool and fuel station, and guided day and night drives.

It is the only Etosha camp built around a restored German colonial fort, and the closest base to Fisher's Pan for birding.
